There was another round of virtual catwalks in the works for fashion this season. However, France relaxed its coronavirus restrictions just a few days before the Paris Fashion Week menswear shows began on Tuesday.

Now, 17 designers including Rick Owens, Loewe, and Dior Homme are scheduled to perform in-person shows during Autumn-Winter 2022 Menswear Week. The remaining 52 labels will present using a combination of digital streams and physical displays.

Apart from the promise that it will be more exciting (after imposing restrictions before Christmas, the country is opening its borders to British tourists again), there will likely to be moments for reflection.

It will also be Louis Vuitton’s first Paris fashion week without its director for menswear, Virgil Abloh. He died in November 2021, aged 41, after a private battle against cancer. Louis Vuitton paid tribute to Abloh by hosting a Miami final show at the end last year and will host two events as well as a live stream on Wednesday.

Kenzo, the Japanese label, has attracted a lot of interest this month. The brand’s first collection since Nigo, the streetwear visionary, was revealed on Friday.
