Timo Meier’s 3rd Period Snipe lifts Sharks over slumping Senators

Timo Meier scored with 8:42 left and added two assists to give the San Jose Sharks a 6-3 win over the Ottawa Senators.

San Jose won its second consecutive match with goals from Matt Nieto and Tomas Hertl. Logan Couture, Nick Bonino and Jacob Middleton also scored. James Reimer recorded 26 saves for his sixth win.

The Senators got a goal from Brady Tkachuk and an assist from Josh Norris. Connor Brown also scored for them. In defeat, Ottawa lost 23 of its last 10 games. Matt Murray made 23 saves.

In just seven minutes of the first period, Nieto opened scoring for San Jose.

Norris scored the equalizer for his team-high 8th goal in the final period.

Hertl’s eighth goal put the Sharks up 2-1 in the second. But Tkachuk, Brown responded with goals 1:33 apart to give Ottawa their first lead.

Bonino, who was playing in his 700th professional game, tied the game on the power play with 31 seconds remaining in the second period. This was his first goal with Sharks.

Meier’s seventh goal of the season was buried just over half-way through the third, with the game tied at 3. Couture’s seventh goal of the season, Couture added an empty-netter at 1:04. Middleton scored his first NHL goal with an empty-netter in final minutes.
