Shesterkin may be all-world, but not an All Star. Schneider is the fix for D. – [Update News]

Okay, so this week we focused on where and how the Rangers should improve their offense and defense if they are to be a playoff contender this season. They then go out and beat the Sharks 3-0. This is very 2021-22 Ranger-style: Igor Shesterkin straight from COVID-19 protocols and into a shutout. Chris Kreider scores goals. And yet another young man making his NHL debut.

Perhaps the biggest difference between Braden Schneider’s first game and some of the rest of the Rangers debuts this season was the impact the 20-year-old defenseman had: a goal and one of the better nights by metrics and eye test for any third-pair Rangers defenseman so far in 2021-22. Schneider needs a couple more looks before he’s anointed, but the Rangers may be on the road to finding an internal solution to steadying that third pair.

Here are some thoughts on Schneider, Shesterkin and other All-Stars.
