No. 31 New York Islanders – [Update News]

Welcome to Scott Wheeler’s 2022 rankings of every NHL organization’s prospects. The complete ranking as well as more details on the criteria can be found here. We count down each day from No. 32 to No. 1. The series, which includes in-depth evaluations and commentary from sources on more than 500 prospects, runs from Jan. 10 to Feb. 9.

The steady thinning out of the Islanders’ prospect pool over the last several years has now pushed their system to the very bottom of the league. Two years ago they were my 24th-ranked swimming pool. They were my 28th-ranked pool last year. And now, were it not for the introduction of the Seattle Kraken, they’d be dead last.

This is after some significant year-overyear turnover. Oliver Wahlstrom, the team’s top prospect, has graduated to the NHL. All three players in the next tier of the team, Robin Salo, Kieffer bellows and Otto Koivula have now turned 23 and have been promoted to the NHL due to their age.
