A controversial Nashville ending, Bowen Byram’s absence, more – [Update News]

The Avalanche left Nashville angrier than ever. In fact, Tuesday night marked the most frustrated they’ve been all year, according to Cale Makar.

“Some guys were pretty livid with how that ended,” he said.

After overtime tied the score, officials called a bench major on the Avalanche due to too many men on ice. The whistle stemmed from a Nathan MacKinnon–Mikko Rantanen exchange as the puck bounced along the boards. Shortly after the referees called the penalty, Nashville’s Matt Duchene, a former Avalanche standout, buried a goal to give the Predators a 5-4 win. A few Colorado players were left on the bench, fuming about the decision.

“I didn’t get any explanation,” Avalanche coach Jared Bednar said. “We’re frustrated. I still haven’t seen the too many men (penalty), and I’ve already looked at the video.”

“I was right there where Mikko and Nate did the exchange,” Makar added. “Mikko hopped on the ice and the puck wasn’t anywhere near our bench and then it ended up coming over. I was right there. I thought Nate was off the ice and Mikko let it go a couple extra feet behind him just to make sure he didn’t touch it.
