Trader Joe’s Wine Country Chicken Salad

Trader Joe's Wine Country Chicken Salad

This is one rare item that has stood the test and has been on TJ’s shelves for many years. After recently reviewing the Curried Chicken Salad, I was reminded of the Wine Country Chicken Salad, which at the time, I had completely forgotten about. After a quick memory jog, it was clear that I had it many years back in California. It’s one those foods that we actually eat, but somehow a review got lost in translation. For many, this may be an “oldie yet goodie”. You should definitely give it a shot if you’ve never tried it.

It’s similar to Curried Chicken Salad. It also contains celery, raisins, and pecans. The white sauce adds enough flavor to make the dish scrumptious without overpowering the natural flavors. It tastes great with bread and crackers. I would not put this feat of gluttony past myself, but I didn’t eat the whole tub in one sitting. Sonia was a great help. It’s also a big favorite of hers.

It would be great with wine, and a pinot grisio would probably go well. We wouldn’t know, because our PA TJ’s don’t sell wine, and I didn’t feel like making an extra stop after my last TJ’s run, what with the sub-zero temperatures and all. Unexpectedly and strangely, though, there are Vineyards located west of Philly, so there are plenty of local wineries we’ll have to check out in the near future—that is if the vines survive this arctic vortex.

Sonia and myself are huge fans. We each give it 4.5 stars. We didn’t give it the same rating as the curried version, as we are both spice hounds. We also love that extra tingle to the tongue. It’s a delicious, mildly creamy chicken salad.

Bottom line: 9/10
