Trader Joe’s Vanilla & Cinnamon Black Tea

Trader Joe's Vanilla & Cinnamon Black Tea

There are some holiday traditions I don’t get. The movie “A Christmas Story” is the most popular. It’s likely you’ve seen it at least 100 times. That’s about how many times it airs on TBS (or any other station) during this time of the year. The movie is a bit boring, aside from Ralphie getting his Red Ryder BB guns and not actually shooting his eye. The movie really is just a collection of amusing bits of a slightly skewed, but still somewhat aggrandized, version of everyday life that are mostly downers. You may be able to beat the bully once in a while but most of the time it’s getting you stuck in your own way. Your husband wins an ugly, trashy, and expensive leg lamp. Your top secret message turns out to be a poor Ovaltine ad. Your furnace keeps breaking. Ralphie doesn’t lose his eye but still breaks his glasses. That would be a good thing.

There are also holiday traditions I support. Homemade cookies. My Grandma sent us pajamas each year. The staircase. These are all wonderful things. A slightly lesser, but still amazing, selection is available at Trader Joe’s. To a lesser (but still great!) extent, you can also find all the holiday goodies Trader Joe’s has to offer, some of which have been reviewed. Trader Joe’s Vanilla & Cinnamon Black Tea, or what I prefer to simply call “lemur tea,” probably has to be my absolute favorite.

What’s not to like? Let’s talk about packaging. The lemur’s face is amazing! Here he is, likely lost and cold from the snow. He has probably left Madagascar. And somehow, he managed to get tangled up in Christmas lights, while drinking a cup of tea. It’s absurd, but it works. It’s adorable and makes you laugh. This is before you have even had a single sip of the brewed perfection. It’s a good, solid black tea that is well-balanced with vanilla and a few hints of cinnamon. It tastes sophisticated and mature. It tastes great that way. If you are a bit more like my colleagues and prefer something sweet and creamy, then you can just add some cream to the mix and some sugar. It’s a delicious treat! There are few things I love more than warming up with a cup of tea, a big mug and a bag full of lemur tea. It doesn’t matter what time or where you are, you can enjoy it while reading, relaxing on the couch, watching a movie, or working in your cubicle. It’s a well-balanced, delicious, and honest cup of tea that TJ makes every holiday season. There isn’t one negative thing you can say.

Sandy loves it almost as much I do. “I don’t really like tea,” she admitted, “but man! I love lemur chai!” That’s me, too. I can drink iced tea all year, but this is the only hot tea that I buy. I am a bit confused by the gluten-free stamp on this box. Are there other teas that contain gluten? There is some gluten in the traditional lemur diet ?… but it’s a five-star rating. I have not one tiny complaint. Sandy was able to give it a mere four, which I believe is too low. I will assume that she was so shocked at her saying “four”, that I didn’t notice the part where she said, “and a tenth” so I’m just going to go with that. This TJ’s tea deserves Pantheon-hood.

Bottom line: Trader Joe’s Vanilla & Cinnamon Black Tea: 9.5 out of 10 Golden Spoons
