Trader Joe’s Roasted Coconut Chips

Trader Joe's Roasted Coconut Chips

We’ve been thinking about Hurricane Sandy this week. She knocked down trees in our neighborhood in the Philly suburbs and cut off our power for a few days. We were inspired by her Caribbean heritage to think about coconut. We were inspired by coconut to buy Trader Joe’s Roasted Coconut chips.

It’s made with mature coconuts and young coconut juice. You get the best of both. There is no need to choose youth over experience or vice versa. While I am fairly certain that old and young coconuts are both greenish, I have no idea how to tell the difference. I have always loved coconuts and coconut-flavored foods, and this snackaliciousness bag is no exception.

They’re sweet enough to be enjoyed as snacks, but small enough to be used in cakes, ice creams and puddings. They were $1.99 per bag so I thought they were pretty affordable. If coconut is your favorite, you can get the 2 bones and make a great snack.

They have a similar texture to that of the shredded coconut bits that we all know and love—the kind that are used as toppings on cakes and other desserts, but these “chips” have properties similar to other chips. They are very crispy and they are flat. They have a crunchiness when you eat them.

Sonia gave them a rating of 4 stars. She would like the bag to be larger but she was satisfied with it. In this case, I agree. Continue readingIt would have been Be betterThis snack, which is a relatively healthy option, was delicious enough to earn 4 and a 1/2 stars.

Final verdict: 8.5 out 10.
