Apart from sneaking us nasty products like Meatloaf Muffins or Sockeye Salmon Pasta every once in awhile, the most meanest trick our friend Joe plays on us is discontinuing incredible products like Lemon Gingersnap Ice Cream. Evidently, TJ’s executives don’t read our blog enough.
If they had, they wouldn’t have taken away my favorite Organic Tomato Bisque. I thought it was the best tomato soup. It doesn’t have to be broken, Trader Joe.
This roasted red pepper stuff is not bad. It’s not. It’s simply that it is so similar to tomato bisque that it seems pointless. It would be a slight improvement. But it isn’t. It’s not like perfectly-stewed tomatoes with soft lumps. Even worse, the tomato flavor has been diluted a bit. Although it tastes slightly like red peppers, the tomato-pepper combination just doesn’t have the same impact on me as the bisque’s pure tomato flavor.
Perhaps I am illogically holding on to something from the future in the same way I was initially repulsed by the extended versions of the Lord of the Rings, which weren’t quite the same as the theatrical versions. However, I found that each time I watched LOTR, the extended versions made me love them more. I miss this soup more with each bowl. I am sorry for the nerdy comparison.
The soup does not live up to its potential. While the taste is similar to that of Trader Joe’s Organic Tomato Bisque, whose spirit shall live on in the halls of our Pantheon long after its cans are forgotten by the shelves of your local TJ’s store, this tomato red pepper soup’s flavor is Good But not! amazing, Its texture reminds me of creamy tomato soup. This soup is still delicious, no matter how whiny this post sounds.
My wife agreed, but she won’t be able to dock the product as much. The bisque received a perfect score. This soup will earn her half a star. I will have to take off two full stars.
The bottom line: 7.5 points out of 10.
