Poor little thing never had a chance.
One hand, it’s not the fault. Our house is awash in things like Pirate Booty or any other “baby popcorn”. It is our go-to snack no matter what time it is, after work, school, or just for fun. It’s a staple in our house and a regular grazer.
However, why was Trader Joe’s Organic Cacio e Pepe Puffs so amazing?
The bite is the first. These nuggets are crispier and crunchier than standard puffed corn. These peppery puffies are a nice change from the usual crumbly texture. They were also not too oily thanks to the rice flour. Each bite brought a sense of satisfaction. I likey.
And then there is the taste! There are many delicious options. Each puff contained a decent amount of cacio and pepe. The pepper and cheese flavors are not overly greasy. The texture was more like a dusty feeling. However, this didn’t mean that the taste was compromised. Each bite was mild at first, then it grew more intensely. It had a unique romano/cheddar mix that was creamy and delicious. Some pepper was added to add a little spice. Although it’s very balanced, I could have done with a little less white pepper. It leaves a strange taste in my mouth, which I am unsure how to describe. I like white pepper, but I doubt I would choose it.
Anyways, it’s not necessary to say that my sweet bride, our hungry pack of munchkins and I ate the entire bag at snacktime the other night. Gone, without a thought. Goodbye, farewell, gone. Ciao. We all wanted more. So that’s what it means to me, if I see them again at TJ’s (pleasepleaseplease) At least two bags are a good idea. At about $2 for the bag that’s not a bad deal at all.
Everyone, please give a thumbs-up. We’ve warned you. We’re gonna go double fours.
Bottom line: Trader Joe’s Organic Cacio e Pepe Puffs 8 out of 10 Golden Spoons
