Lemon Creme Sandwich Cookies by Trader Joe

Trader Joe's Lemon Creme Sandwich Cookies

Trader Joe’s customers who have been shopping there for a while may recall the time they released a lot of identical products. Coffeepalooza or Mango Mania are two things I am thinking about in particular. There were some years when they released a large number of cookie butter products. However, they did a better job spacing those releases than in the previous two cases. Of course, every fall we were inundated by pumpkin spice offerings. But that trend is slowly changing as TJ’s now balances PS with apple, maple, and butternut squash offerings.

Sonia and me have wondered for years why they don’t do “Ludicrous Lemon” and “Lemon Lunacy.” They have plenty of lemon products, including lots of cookies, bars, tarts, pies, and beverages. Lemon Lunacy could include the re-release of Trader Joe’s Lemon Triple Ginger Snap Ice Cream. It would be a great way to make the WGATJ team happy as well as satisfy every fan of quality ice creams across the country. Why are you so mad at your loyal customers, Trader Joe’s

These cookies are a great addition to Lemon Lunacy. These cookies are sweet and lemony, and very satisfying. They’re a simple sugar cookie with moderate lemon flavor. They didn’t go crazy with lemon here. A little more lemonosity would have been fine by me. The cookie elements as well as the filling are lemontastic. However, tartness doesn’t overpower the dessertiness of the product. They are pleasant and refreshing.

However, the texture of our cookies was a bit too stiff. I expected them soft. They are soft, but not quite as soft as I expected. They might be soft, just like Little Debbie Oatmeal Cream Pies. They’re not. They are, however. Not crispy or crunchy. They are chewy, but they taste good. Too chewy in my book. They should be soft and malleable, I thought. But…I dunno. I’m unable to think of a word that would describe the texture better than “stiff”. They weren’t old. They were only two days old when we opened the box. Perhaps somehow their vegan-ness makes them stiffer than cookies that can use butter and/or eggs…?

These cookies aren’t cheap at $4.29 for four cookies. There are eight servings per bag. Wait. What? Yeah. It’s easy.

These cookies are worth a purchase if you’re vegan or a fan of lemons. However, there are many better lemon dessert options. These cookies are delicious flavor-wise. However, the stiff texture and overall cost make them unlikely to be purchased again.

Final verdict: 7/10.
