Trader Joe’s Chocolate Kona Coffee Truffles

Trader Joe's Chocolate Kona Coffee Truffles

All right, now don’t be alarmed. Even though I was the guy who last wrote about not just one, but two healthy snacks it doesn’t mean I’m abandoning the wonderful TJ’s bounty. I am just trying to enjoy it all in (semi-) blessed moderation. Most of the time Healthy eating is key. I’ve lost almost ten pounds in the last year, and it’s about time to make a new hole in my belt. Sandy can now be heard. Belts cost $20 and holes are completely free. I won’t buy a new belt. My moderation regarding sweet, sugary goodness makes me think about Cookie Monster who comes to the devastating conclusion that cookies are not meant to “be”!Sometimes, foods can be dangerous..” This old post on chocolate covered potato chips and cheesecake provides further proof. Glutton.

However, I found Trader Joe’s Chocolate Kona Coffee Truffles to be a great opportunity to test my resolve. Little wrapped, delectable chocolate candies? These little chocolate candies are deliciously wrapped and could be eaten by the handful. Then I would wake up to Wilfred Brigley and a Liberty Mutual box. Emphasis on the “in theory.” This is what my taste buds crave.

These truffles are quite good, I will admit. These truffles don’t always make my taste buds tingle. Whatever kind of dance/loveThese guys are creating, but still, deliciousness abounds. Layer upon layer of chocolate, milk, dark, or white, all combined into a delicious, rich bite-sized piece of pure delight. It’s important to not eat too much chocolate. Instead, let it melt in the mouth and let it soak in for a minute or two. Although I swear that I could taste each chocolate individually, it was only in flavory flashes. It’s possible to also taste the Kona coffee granules inside. Sandy was also critical of the fact that you can easily forget the coffee taste if you just chew and swallow it. Although it’s a bit too subtle, these are great coffees.

They are also so rich, I can eat just one or two of them. It would be nice to think I could use them as a reward for eating my fruits, vegetables, etc. after a long, tiring day. I am not sure how much caffeine coffee contains, but I can tell you that it has a lot of caffeine. I had two of them the other night, and ended up staying up until late because I was wrapped up in a book. It’s unclear if this is more Alice Sebold’s fault or Trader Joe.

Sandy wishes they were more coffee-y. Although I agree with Sandy, I think TJ has erred on the side to be subtle. Man, that melting chocolate taste …. This is how you knock on the door to greatness. It’s hard to find better for $3.99.

Bottom line: Trader Joe’s chocolate Kona coffee truffles have an 8.5 rating out of 10 Golden Spoons
