It’s possible that it is fate that we are reviewing Vietnamese style pho. On your birthday, you can eat a bowl o beef pho in Vietnam.

It’s not true, I made it up. According to This websiteIn Vietnam, there are no birthday traditions. Instead, all birthdays are observed on New Year’s Day. So, this is kind of an incongruous dish to review for our birthday. But that’s okay. It’s all part of the adventure. But did you know that our birthdays are shared with Madonna and Angela Bassett, Kathie Le Gifford, Frank Gifford, Frank Gifford, Eydie Gorme (whom I worked for many years)? It’s true.

Ok, enough intro. Let’s move on to the food review. Based on TJ’s past record, I expected there to be less beef in this dish. This dish is a prime example of their tendency to cut back on meat. This was, however, not the case. But I don’t think there was. Too muchIt was beef, but the soup tasted great. Despite that, I have to point out one more basic ingredient. This was Noodles are always in short supply. It’s not clear how this happened, but I ran out way before I could get beef. The noodles were also very difficult to me. I followed the instructions, but it felt like I should have allowed the noodles to soak in hot water for another five minutes or so.

The broth was light, slightly savory, as a good pho soup should be. I’ve only had restaurant pho twice, and both times, I am told, I had it from average-at-best pho restaurants, but I must remind you that Russ and I are self-proclaimed foodie-hacks, not true licensed foodies. I am willing to bet many of you have had pho even less than me. So please bear with us. The vegetables were very good, they were chopped into small pieces and evenly distributed throughout. The vegetable bits were fine, just like the broth and beef.

Overall, the soup is delicate and delicious. The main problem was the inability to find noodles and their stiff texture. I’d try this product again, but I’d heat the dish an extra minute and allow it to sit for an extra five. It will get three and a 1/2 stars. Sonia is also in agreement.

The bottom line: 7 out 10.
