David Culley, although he’s no longer the Houston Texans head coach, will still get a good salary.
The NFL had seven open head coaches when the season began on January 13. However, that number rose to eight by the end of the day. The Houston Texans fired David Culley as head coach after only one season. Culley had a record 4-13. Culley will still be receiving huge amounts of money even though his tenure was short and unceremoniously ended.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Texans owe Culley $17 million over the next three years. Houston will pay Culley $22 million, if you add that to the 2021 money he earned.
After firing David Culley, Texans owe David Culley a lot of money
After Houston parted ways with Bill O’Brien early on in the 2020 season, they were in search of their new head coach. They also had to deal with Deshaun Watson’s saga as he tried to trade the team. Culley was then the Baltimore Ravens’ passing game coordinator.
Culley’s leadership was a great fit for the Texans in 2021. They won big over the Tennessee Titans (and Los Angeles Chargers) and saw third-round rookie quarterback Davis Mills excel in the second half. However, the team decided to move on.
Culley’s replacement in Houston could be former Miami Dolphins head Coach Brian Flores, and New England Patriots linebackers coaches Jerod Mayo.
Culley’s tenure with the Texans may have come to an end, but he will still be getting paid by the organization.
