49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo (thumb), expected to start against the Rams

The San Francisco 49ersTheir starting quarterback will be available for Sunday’s crucial final of the regular season.

Jimmy Garoppolo, dealing with a torn ligament in his thumb, is expected to start versus the Rams, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reports, per a source.

Garoppolo was out of action for the last week’s match due to injury. According to Rapoport, the 49ers’ quarterback injured his thumb while throwing in Week 16 against the Tennessee Titans. He will likely undergo offseason surgery for the injury.

Rapoport states that San Francisco did no activate another QB before Sunday’s match, and players said that he appeared normal when throwing a ball. Rookie Trey Lance led the Niners’ win over the Texans last Week 17. He took a majority in practice and will be ready if required.

A win or tie against the Rams or a loss to New Orleans Saints could secure a playoff spot for the 49ers.
